The Wyoming Association for Environmental Education (WAEE) and the Science and Mathematics Teaching Center (SMTC) joined together in the creation of the Wyoming Natural Resources Education Advisory Board. The goal of this board is to promote education in the area of natural resources for both K-12 students and adults. At no time has the need been greater for the next generation to understand our relationship to the natural world.
The Advisory Board consists of educators and scientists who have a significant influence with teachers, school administrators and legislators in Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain region. The Board’s first meeting was in Aug 2007. Their goals include:
- Serving as an editorial board for curriculum to be used by teachers, including reviewing the Wild Wonderful Wyoming curriculum and exploring implementation of other projects such as Project Wild or Project Learning Tree.
- To consult on workshops for teachers and other educators through the SMTC, and later through the Berry Center for Natural History and Conservation.
- To provide outreach speakers to our cities and communities concerning our natural resources and the issues that surround them.
- To consult on online resources for teachers.
